Coen, D and Grant, W (2000) Corporate political strategy and global policy: a case study of the transatlantic business dialogue. Working Paper. London Business School Regulation Initiative Working Paper Series.
Abstract
The transatlantic business dialogue (TABD), set up in 1995 as a joint initiative of the European Commission and US State Department, has evolved into a businessgovernment policymaking body. The TABD brings together 112 top American and European chief executives to coordinate business responses to international trade, standards and regulation questions. The TABD's ability to coordinate quick and focused policy responses and its removal of the need for potential intergovernmantal bargaining has been an appealing feature for CEOs and government officials. However, for all its policymaking advantages, questions marks have been raised about the accountability, representatives and legitimacy of bigbusiness forums.
